ENVS History

The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon was founded in 1976 by the Environmental Education Research Group, a graduate-student-led initiative to “explore the university’s responsibility and potential in the areas of environmental education, research, and problem-solving”. Their recommendations, especially their emphasis on the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, still serve as the foundation of the program today.
