We are delighted to welcome former ENVS Master’s student Raj Vable back to our offices at the UO as Office/Undergraduate Coordinator. He is now working part-time to manage the equipment inventory, provide technical support, and assist with other sundry necessities.
During his Master’s Raj helped develop financial strategies for a rural Indian NGO, Avanti, and after graduating in 2012 he spent another seven months with them on a Fulbright scholarship. That’s when he learned that tea grows in the Central Himalayan mountains where they work. “As a total tea nut, I got excited about the idea of starting a tea cultivation program to develop a new Indian tea region with a small-farmer focus. So we reached an agreement that if they grew the tea, I would sell it in the US.”
Raj’s new project, Young Mountain Tea, begins online retail in January.
Stop by the ENVS office to meet him or say hello!
