I am a professor in the Geography department, where I teach and do research on the political economy of natural resources, agro-food issues, and relationships between nature and society. Most of my research has been on fisheries and especially the shift to neoliberal (or market-based) fishery policy.

My business is called Sacred Earth Ecological design. I create edible landscapes, sacred space, medicinal and edible plant gardens for clients. I also do permaculture designs which integrating natural building, food production, solar energy, living systems, to create harmonious abundant living spaces.
I teach permaculture design classes and workshops as well as at the wilderness charter school which is part of the local Ashland high school.

I currently teach creative writing as visiting writer in local elementary, high schools and after school programs. I also teach nature writing at Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center, Breitenbush Conference Center and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and occassionally teach poetry for Washington State University as an adjunct professor.
My main work is as a writer. My creative writing manuscript about living in a cooperative community outside Eugene for a year will be published this January. Siesta Lane was part of my thesis for the ES degree!
